Wasted Lives

In April 2007, the Partnership began a campaign with the Lancashire Telegraph called Wasted Lives. The campaign’s aim is to highlight to young people, and to parents and guardians, the dangers of inexperienced drivers taking unnecessary risks on our roads.

The campaign has gone from strength to strength and has received a huge amount of media coverage each week, with no signs of this slowing down. Over 1000 local people have signed up to the "No More Wasted Lives" aims, while re-telling their own traumatic stories of losing a loved one. Their real life stories have been told to try and prevent more needless deaths through dangerous driving.

Wasted Lives Educational Programme

To reach the young people of Lancashire with the real consequences of risk taking on the roads, the Partnership has developed a Wasted Lives Educational Programme. The Programme aims to enable the participants to take responsibility for their actions on the roads, to understand the consequences of these actions and to also broaden their knowledge about road safety matters. This is all done through interactive workshop sessions and informal discussions.

If you work with young people aged 15 to 24 who are new or soon-to-be drivers, please e-mail kat.whitemoss@env.lancscc.gov.uk to see how this programme can help.
