News : PNE Star Rewards Safe Kids!

Chris Brown, Preston North End’s popular striker, has been to visit all the pupils at New Longton All Saints’ Primary School, Preston, to reward them and their parents for staying safe on the school run. Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety has conducted a seatbelt survey of over 1000 drivers and their young passengers across schools in the county which revealed that one in five parents and every fourth child arriving at or leaving the school gate do not wear a seatbelt. However, 96% of children at New Longton All Saints' Primary School were safely belted in bucking the shocking trend.

Said Chris Brown: “I can’t believe any parent would take the risk. It doesn’t matter how much of a rush you are in, or how short the journey – surely it is better to arrive alive.”

Chris will hand over 50 free tickets to pupils and their families for PNE’s big home match against Cardiff City on Saturday 27th February as a reward for their common sense when it comes to wearing their seatbelts.

Said Saf Munshi, Communications Officer for Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety: “What I can’t understand is that we have recorded Mums and Dads arriving at school belted in, but their children are clearly without seatbelts in both the front and rear passenger seats. Do parents really value their lives over their children’s? I can’t imagine that is true, but that is what the figures are telling us. An unrestrained child’s head will smash into the windscreen at the same speed the car was travelling before coming to an abrupt stop in a crash. Even at 20 mph this is enough to kill or cause brain damage for life. It takes just seconds for parents to check that their passengers have their seatbelts on – potentially saving a lifetime of guilt and loss.”

Do you ALWAYS make sure your passengers wear seatbelts? Thank you for your vote!
