Blackpool Council is promoting the ‘Don’t Drink and Drive’ message this summer by giving away free barbecue packs.
As the weather improves and more people hold barbecues and parties, Blackpool Council is reminding drivers across Blackpool of the drink drive message.
The Council has put together seasonal Drink Drive Barbecue Packs, which contain information and advice about drinking and driving as well as some summer barbecue giveaways.
The packs are designed to remind people of the dangers of having even just the one drink as, on average, 3,000 people a year are killed or seriously injured each year in drink drive collisions in the UK.
Cllr Maxine Callow, Cabinet Member, with responsibility for Road Safety, said: “Most people know that drinking and driving is dangerous and against the law but what they don’t realise is how little it takes to become a drink driver.
“Over the summer many people will go to barbecues or house parties and choose to have ‘just the one’ drink. We are trying to educate people that even one could be too many, especially as people tend to be overly generous with their measures at home. One drink at a friends house is quite often much stronger than one drink at the pub.”
The packs contain a free non-alcoholic cocktail leaflet, a unit calculator, some don’t drink and drive beer mats and cocktail stirrers as well as some valuable drink drive information to educate drivers about the effects of drinking and getting behind the wheel.
