Want to get back on your bike but feeling a little rusty? It’s never too late to start cycling. Blackpool Council are offering free Cycle Training Sessions for anyone that wants to learn more about how to cycle safely.
Whether you lack confidence riding your bike on the roads, want to get out cycling with your family or just want to get fit, our cycle training sessions could be for you and training is available to anyone over nine years of age.
The cycling training sessions usually take place over the course of a day and can be organised to suit. Family sessions, one-to-one, or group sessions can be arranged.
The sessions are one-day courses, which start in a traffic free environment, so they can accommodate people at all levels. When the cyclists are confident enough to go out on the roads they are taken out in a small group and cover road positioning, how to use facilities and most importantly how to cope with other traffic. Motorists also need to become aware of and respect the increasing amounts of cyclists on our busy roads.
Helmets must be worn and anyone wishing to borrow them from the Council can, for those who do not own a bicycle, they are also available to borrow from the Council.
Cllr Roy Haskett, Cabinet Assistant for Culture and Communities, and keen cyclist himself, said: “The Council is very committed to providing residents with a wide range of cycling activities and the free cycle training is just one of a number of activities available”.
“It is a great way to get those who haven’t cycled in a while to become more confident in a supervised environment”.
