The aim of the “Check It, Don’t Chance It” events is to make sure parents are aware of their responsibilities, as well as the legal requirements of having the right restraints. It is compulsory for all children under the age of 12 or under 1.35m to use an appropriate car seat.

Through its “Check It, Don’t Chance It” campaign, the Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety has regularly found that two-thirds of child car restraints in use are not properly fitted or regularly checked. The risk of fatality or injury in the event of an accident rises by 71% and 69% if the appropriate restraints are not used.

Saf Munshi, Senior Communications Officer for Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety explains, “There are well over 100 different models of seats and they do not all fit every type of car or seat belt arrangement. Instructions are often ‘puzzling’ to follow and trying to fit the seats in a limited space doesn’t help. We are offering good practical advice to ensure that each seat is safely fitted for every journey giving confidence that you have done everything possible to save your child’s life in the event of crash.”

A free sunscreen will be given to everyone who takes part.

Do you ALWAYS make sure your passengers wear seatbelts? Thank you for your vote!
